sleep

Come heavy sleep

Come upon me

That I would know thy countenance

That I would not make light

Of thy lifting smile

And gossamer tones as light as feathers

That which thy bring to all

Who hope

Who desire

Who would drink deep from the draught

Of unbridled rest

The peace of God’s blessing

Upon their burdened furrowed brows

Come rest upon me

And my fellow souls

That I might

We might awaken

To a more just and equitable land

Filled with milk and honey

Where sorrow and a maiden’s tear

Are no more

That we would dream the dreams

Of princes and of kings

Come heavy sleep

Come rest upon each and every weary head

This night

As I would take me to my bed

Thanks Ray and LCTPB much appreciated . I like the fluidity of this style. Believe it or not I came across a C.D of sting 'songs from the labyrinth' which is based on some Elizabethen writing and songs.
Thanks again guys

This stylised soliloquoy is great and it does reveal the fascination of the depths of Shakespeare; very enjoyable. Ray

Thanks Stu , Maria and Dorinda much appreciated. It was kind of a nod towards Shakspeare, although would not pretend to be in the same league as the great man. Though I may try writing some more in a similar vein.
Thanks again

Very beautiful. I feel tired sadness and hopeful beauty in the poem.
