To Find The Muse

To find the muse I know not how;

As skittish wench or sacred cow.

She’ll tantalise and lead you on,

But suddenly you find her gone

And left you with a knotted brow.

The words won’t come at all somehow,

As gloomily your head will bow;

Though you contrive to battle on

To find the muse.

Those hopeful dreams of verse endow

Your aspiration here and now

For inspiration that has gone

Like some elusive leprechaun

To find the muse.

On occasion, I find my sleeping mind creates a theme and
eventually the words - often well on the way to completion
when I finally totter from bed. This has also been the case
with song/lyric - which I why I've found a cassette tape
player VERY useful. I know from experience that if I don't
act immediately and get something on tape, then it will be
lost IF I drop back to sleep, often a test of will power
when duvet comfort calls!
