Coat of Snow

                                                                                Video version: http://bit.ly/1qsRtE8

I wear you like a coat of snow,

weighing down upon me,

falling snowflake by snowflake.

upon the warmest of days.

A sparkling robe of powder,

bespoke and wintered, tempered,

with a fringe of ice thrown flurries.

which never thaws away.

And I tell myself I’ll shake it.

I’ll cast you to the ground,

though the layers keep on forming,

as snowflakes tumble down.

Buttoned tight with bitter memories,

stitched with loving care,

my coat of snow holds together,

the heart that once lay bare.

With a veil of delicate lace layers,

accessorising a storm of frozen tears,

my coat of snow is softly customised,

by seasons of heartbroken years.

And I tell myself I’ll shake it.

Fashion never stays the same,

though cold winds keep on blowing,

this coat of snow remains.

Chris Co: Long time, no see :) Thanks for the comment, really appreciated. Coat of Snow is one of my favourites and a bit lighter than my usual rants! lol

Daniel: Thanks so much for the feedback on the video version. It's made my day :)

Though I'm becoming more confident 'performing' live now I have a heck of a long way to go. I am much more comfortable letting the poems and words to the business.

Hi Shirley-Ann,

Loved hearing you read this poem at Middleton earlier in the year, well written.

Love this. Great visions with the video version. Coat of snow and changing fashion. (But remains). Buttons, stitches and the heart drawn in the snow.
Great work.

The rhythm, speed, volume and pitch is right on the button... (no pun intended S-A) ;)
