Note to self

Note to self

One thing I know is…. It can take real courage to make mistakes.  Not just to make mistakes but to be willing to live with the consequences.  To whole heartedly accept full responsibility for those errors with a stoic smile.

Even if the result of those mistakes is that the whole universe comes crashing into a cascading oblivion.  At the end of days at least, if they exist, you can look Yahweh or Lucifer in the eye and say.  “I did what I thought was best.  I acted out of love”

Or maybe just float off into the ether of eternal nothingness knowing that you played your own part in this wonderful, confusing tapestry of life.  That you where not afraid of life, a sheep or a follower of rules.

Rules are certainly made for the obedience of fools and the guidance of the wise.  But also to be broken by cowards and the courageous alike. The consequence of the digression is of less importance than the intention I believe.

A man who follows society, follows rules, follows what is respectable I have no care for, as that man is already dead.  A man who follows his inner voice, who questions, who rebels, who opts out!  Now that is a man who will truly live his life.

Choose to be authentic or orthodox, a lion or a lamb, courageous or a coward but above all be what you are.  Don’t be a hypocrite who talks of running but has never crawled, who talks of flying but has never fallen. Who talks of smiles but has ever cried.

Don’t talk of that which you have not experienced in your own life as if you have.  Don’t hide in shadows.  Speaking of life as a Priest speaks of a God that he has never even met, reciting borrowed rumours from a tatty old testament.

Be original.

Seek your own truth, follow your own beliefs, be bohemian, a wonderer, a seeker, an outcast, a weirdo, be courageous, be creative.  Live with truth on your lips and both joy and sorrow in your heart.  You will find others alike, you will not be alone.

Then maybe at the end of each day you can look yourself in the eye and say “I did what I thought was best.  I acted out of love” and maybe…..Just maybe………

Yahweh and Lucifer may both be looking back from the other side of that mirror.

Smiling.

Before you float off into nothing.

Townes Van Zandt once said:

'You cannot count the miles until you feel them.'

I take that to be a truism; you express that here with differing words. Lots going on and lots to like. A thoughtful read Ged; enjoyable thinking with some v good lines.

If Desiderata were a call to arms.
