Trev in Texas 2014: Departure Day (Not)

entry picture

Image: A fog bound Leeds/Bradford Airport, early morning

02.04.14: 7) Departure day soon comes round

Shower, coffee and to the airport I'm bound

Checked in on line last night, seems I'd done it right

It had done the trick, got throough check in pretty quick

Then breakfast to be had full English for this local lad

With a black coffee the first of many

Which like the breakfast cost a pretty penny

Still no need to be so drear, after all it's only once a year

But I'll be glad when the flight I'm on

Thinking let my Texas tour carry on

8) Breakfast over, now to the departure gate

Very filling, hope I'm not overweight

Now to get a bottle of water, I have to be wary

It's amazing how much prices vary

So easy to burst your holiday bubble

Finding out you’ve paid nearly double

And if why so much I decide to ask

Adding when highwaymen robbed at least they wore a mask

9) Now at the departure gate

But there’s a delay and we had to wait

Hopefully all we be fine

On the next announcement at quarter past nine

9:15 it seemed the weather had the greater power

The delay continued for a least a further half hour

10) The delay has continued for what seems an age

Time to start another page

They’ve said we should be going soon

We should have left at 10 past 9 and now it’s almost noon

Meanwhile I’ve e mailed a mate

To let the motel know I may be late

And rung the car hire firm to tell them all is not going well

Next year I’ll try to do things right

And book myself an earlier flight

Then if things don’t go as planned

At least I’ve got some time in hand.

11) Things have got worse as I pen this verse

Not gone right they’ve cancelled the flight

It’s to foggy so I understand

For the plane to safely land

Booking desk alerted, we may be diverted

To late for others with more to loose

Going to miss the start of their cruise

And it’s not to our delight waiting in vain

Only to be told we’ve to queue again.

12) At the check in desk once more

Do they really know the score?

Frustration showing as no one seems to be knowing

How long we have to wait or get another departure date

But nobody’s got mad or enraged

As in conversations we’ve engaged

Although we weren’t going to fly

At least our community spirit was high

Even though we felt under a cloud

It was a spirit that did Dunkirk proud

13) For some new flights were found but it only added to their sorrow

They’d to go home and come back tomorrow

They got me another flight

From Manchester it should be alright

But then the official did tell It was tomorrow as well

Couldn’t fly through the air, would need a taxi to get there

So for money I would have to delve in pounds it was 112

But getting home I saved some brass*

Cos’ I’d brought my seniors bus pass

*Brass: Yorkshire word for money

14) Three flights should have begun my days roam

But it ended with three busses getting me home

Once there I wasn’t thwarted,

Phone calls were made and things were sorted

Motel rooms held in obeyance,

A new time made to pick up my conveyance

I just hope the weathers better and my new flight goes to the letter
