Welcome to 2014! Here are some poetry prizes to try for

It’s 2014 – and a happy new year to you all from everyone at Write Out Loud. Hope it's a good one for you, and for us, too. So what about those New Year resolutions? Some of you might be hoping to win more recognition for your poetry this year. Here’s a selection of the first competitions of 2014: 

Pighog / Poetry School pamphlet contest: Entrants should submit a maximum of 10 poems. The closing date is 31 January 2014. More details 

Kent and Sussex poetry society competition: First prize £1,000, deadline 31 January, judge Pascale Petit. More details 

Prole laureate magazine competition: Deadline is 1 February for entry to the £140 competition. The winning poem will be published in Prole 13 in April 2014. More details 

Camden / Lumen poetry competition: The closing date is 14 February for this competition, which raises money for cold weather shelters. The prize is 50 free copies of a perfect bound small collection of your poems, plus a reading. More details 

Templar’s poetry pamphlet competition: Submissions are open until 3 March.  Poets are invited to submit a portfolio of 10-12 pages of poetry. More details

Cardiff international poetry competition: The deadline is 14 March. First prize is £5,000. More details
