Competition Reminder. Touch and Go

This is a reminder about the current informal competition. Only Izz and Barrie have had a go so far - it does need a few more of you to make it viable so why not have a go?

  1. The theme is 'Touch and go'. Given the time of year, if someone wants to vary that along the lines of 'Light blue touchpaper and retire', feel free. The poem, or poems, have to have something, however tenuous, to do with that sort of idea.

  2. It should be blogged by Friday 8th November. It would help if it was tagged “Touch and go”

  3. On Saturday 9th Nov, I'll blog a list of all the poems written on the theme in the month and invite votes, so long as there are more than 2!

  4. An Alternative Voting System. Two votes per WOL member numbered 1 and 2, for your first and second choice. Don't vote for yourself. Votes to be emailed by end of play Thurs 14th Nov to me at davebradley80@hotmail.co.uk or via WOL message.

  5. In case of a tie for first or second place on first choices, second choices wll be taken into account. I won't enter or vote but will use a casting vote if even AV delivers a tie. There will only be one winner and only one second placed poem.

  6. The winner can nominate a charity to receive a £10 donation. Second placed poet can nominate a charity to receive a £5 donation. Unfortunately, I can't match Izz's creativity with inflatable whales and whale paperweights for prizes.

If there is a good response the winner may like to run a follow-up competition, though should feel under no pressure to come up with prizes.

I'm surprised you haven't had more, Dave. Perhaps you have to provide incentive with a more provocative prize?

This title could work with a love lost theme - and we all love to write about that...

It can be anything you want Cynthia. The saying originated with 19th century coachmen apparently. If the wheels touched (a frequent occurrence) but they could carry on, then all was well. There had been a moment of danger but it had passed. It was also used by sailors in respect of a ship touching bottom but not running aground.

I'll look forward to seeing your offering!

I've been out of the loop entirely. Touch and Go, eh? Interesting. I'm presuming it can be as innocuous as 'It's touch and go whether it will rain today' to as serious as 'It's touch and go whether Syria will survive as a country.'

Any idea where the saying originated? Like maybe 'touch the red button and go to smithereens'? Just wondering. I'd better get cracking if I want to be a part, and I do. Less than a week!
