CATCH THE RAIN
CATCH THE RAIN.
Watch as a child tries to catch the rain
Dancing and singing to imagined refrains
Bathe in their innocence and see fire in the skies
The world is full of magic seen through their eyes
Growing older see that innocence go
Watch the magic fade and cynicism grow
Why do we leave imagination behind?
Standing helpless as joy unwinds
We’re so consumed with getting by
We overlook the fire in the sky
More pressing things to do than playing games
You have to make money now not daisy chains.
Childhood wonder has been replaced
A drive to make a living has been embraced
Then comes a time you have children of your own
Again imagination has to be postponed
Getting older still and your life’s complete
There are grandkids now and all ends meet
With fire in your belly and a remembered refrain
Step outside now and show them how to catch the rain.

I was reminded in passing of "What is this life, so full of care..."
Enjoyed this as a gentle reminder to keep the
innocence of childhood fresh.
..................
Let the child within you live
Even while you earn a living
And you'll not lose the gift to give
Or the gift of others giving!
