Poetry v rap: who comes out the winner in BBC contest?

A three-round battle between rappers and poets in an east London bar which also looks at the shared history of the two art forms and hears from rappers and spoken words artists such as Chuck D, KRS-One, Scroobius Pip and Kate Tempest, pictured, will be aired on BBC Radio 1Xtra on Sunday night, 27 January at 9pm. Presenter Nihal hears how there could be even be a connection with the Romantic poets and Shakespeare. In a packed schedule the programme also takes in Shake the Dust, the UK’s biggest youth poetry slam, and how poetry and hip-hop are being used in the classroom today. Poetry v rap – are they worlds apart, or are the dividing lines beginning to blur?
