New Beginnings

New Beginnings

She looked, longingly, up that steep hill:

It was summer still –

Favoured summer smiled on her:

Her heart joined forces with her will –

She knew, sure as the summer sun

Shone bright that day,

All the world – it was hers –

She held all in her sway –

Brave beginnings! – ah, well! –

That glorious day beckoned,

All of life’s promises she beheld: who can say

What adventures she glimpsed? –

What untold joys: who can say?

And life happened; many glorious dreams found

Themselves lost and forgotten, pressed deep underground –

Winter’s snows trapped them, cold: now they utter no sound……….

But no matter! – no matter! –

See! – a sunbeam shines through –

And it still forms a part of

That girl I once knew.

As the girl herself, I have still many adventures awaiting me at the top of that steep hill: I am encouraged afresh!

That girl never left
She just waited for
The burning hot sun
To melt all snow
From deep underground to
Start yet another adventure
Up that steep hill.
