Texperiments: there's still time to take part in a new type of poem
There are still several days left to take part in a new poetic experiment is being conducted by Write Out Loud’s regular conduit of the interesting and unusual, Winston Plowes. Backed by Jo Bell, organiser of National Poetry Day, Winston is asking poets to take part by generating “strange and hopefully wonderful poems via the medium of radio waves (SMS text messages)” in what he has dubbed Texperiments.
Winston said: “Your help is needed to make it happen. Each poet who signs up will receive a string of words via a text message that will form part of a poem. They will be asked to reply with words of their own to continue the sentence.” He will curate the poems and the results will hopefully be published online. How you can take part:
Register by texting the word POEM followed by the name you wish to use if we display your input (i.e. Anon, JS, John Smith, etc) to 07910234084.
Wait for a reply containing your allocated words.
Reply with your own contribution. (Your words must make grammatical sense with those you receive).
You have approximately two hours to reply.
You may receive more than one text.
You can opt out at any point by texting STOP to 07910234084.
Winston added: “Texts will be charged at the standard national rate. All numbers will be confidential and a dedicated NPD phone number used for Texperiments, after which the account will be closed. Your number will not be retained, passed on or used for any other purpose.”
The experiment is continuing until the end of October.
