The Day Of Sense

This England,
this melting pot - of all those people,
those that wish to start afresh and free.

We stand apart from Europe,
our small island packed so tight,
and yet more keep coming, some softly in the night.

Is it the chance for freedom
that makes them yearn to see,
if all that they have heard of us, could ever really be?

Throughout our great long history,
so many came to settle this famed green land,
the numbers grow so swiftly, so I can quite understand,

I understand that there are worries,
that we may not take so many more,
yet if their lives are threatened, let them come unto our shore.

The world is shrinking fast,
the seas erode the land,
big business strips the timber and minerals out of hand.

We needs must heed the warnings,
that our numbers will surely soon exceed,
the powers of our planet, to match our basic needs.

May the day of sense dawn soon now,
before the tipping point of this earth is passed,
open up all minds now to the realities we must face at last.

LOL - An inspired retort Tommy - but what does it say other than you are determined NOT to understand the theme? The subsequent lines are there to clarify, but you do need to read them without prejudice!

Best wishes, Dave

The fifth line says it all- and sets the tone and shows the real intent of what is to follow. A liberal whining into his cups.

Hi MC - thanks for your thoughtful response.

I think the best hope for our collective future will come only when we accept that we (the human race)have more connections than just being traced back to one common ancestry. We need to take minds away from negatives and put them to work on positives - or our children & grandchildren can be forgiven for concluding earlier generations all stuck their heads in the sand... Best wishes, Dave

Thoughtful and relevant to humanity's ongoing
predicament.
Sense seems in short supply when looking to the
future. We are reminded regularly of how the
world's population is increasing beyond the
capability of the planet to support it, whilst
at the same time also reminded that we have a duty to save the offspring of that self-same
humanity in various places. So - what is the answer and can mankind act to save its home
before it f...s itself off the face of the Earth in ignorant irreponsibility?

Perchance there is some relevance in your response - if you take a single line out of context.

But maybe reading the whole might lead to understanding the reason why that line was needed...

Best wishes, Dave
