The drive from Memphis to Chattanooga and when I got there

20.04.11 - 77) The drive to Chattanooga had gone ok

A bit of rain on the way

On arriving of the time I had to take stock

Add another hour on the clock

For they had an daylight saving hour

Was it to enjoy the early evening blooms in flower?

So the hour that they did save gave me time to visit Ruby’s Cave

A grotto underground, in which a waterfall had been found

Thought it the most beautiful sight in his life

And so named it after his wife

Rock formations to delight

Stalactite and stalagmite

Water dripping like angels tears

Part of what nature created over millions of years

Then up Lookout Mountain to Camp Point

The view from the top didn’t disappoint

Through Chattanooga to the horizons end

Back to the Mississippi River and Moccasin Bend

Civil war cannons looking down

As in the days when they fired on the town.

Good shots but no time for flattery

Get away from the fusillade from the battery

It’s a beauty spot now, a visitor centre and yet

Still the message, “lest we forget”
