Matthew Welton at The Octagon Theatre, Tuesday, 6th June

Internationally-acclaimed poet and Bolton University creative writing lecturer, Matthew Welton's prize-winning, first collection, The Book of Matthew has been described as “one of the most refreshing first books of poetry to emerge in several years”.
Also on the bill is local poet and retired gardener, John Mather who, until 2004, had never read his poetry in public. His lyrical poems about old Lancashire are popular with the Write Out Loud regulars at their monthly Howcroft Inn poetry nights.
Another first is a performance by composer/poet, Anwen Lewis, whose original cello composition accompanies a haunting poem about life behind bars, performed and written by Manchester poet, Scorcha.
And local poets can step up and read at the open mic part of the evening.
