Knowing When To Surrender

This radio conversation out of the blue

From a naval ship has came to light,

Off Canadian shores, reported to be true

From ’95 on an October night.

The naval man started the conversation,

Confident it was he to make the decision.

“Approaching vessel – please change direction

15 degrees North to avoid collision.”

The response was a tremendous sauce

As it came back causing derision.

“Recommend you divert your course

15 degrees South to avoid collision."

“This is the captain of a US Navy ship.

I say again, you divert your course.”

“No, divert your course,” returned the lip.

So now was the time to use force!

“This is the Aircraft Carrier Enterprise,

We are a large warship of the US navy.

Divert your course now!"  (Damn their eyes!)

There, let them answer that one bravely!

For he was an officer, not a mouse,

He was the one who would achieve.

But back came: “This is a lighthouse.

So now it’s your call, I believe.”
