Nightmare

The Samurai sword

bearing down for the eleventh time

stops within a second of death

Demons of nineteen hundred hours

disappear

Five Cistercian monks

ring the bells at 6a.m.

Witch hazel soothes

cuts on a shaven throat

He stumbles on the pathway

to a  meeting

with the missing one

Very much like a nightmare with so many facets making the whole -

I don't think he is writing as much poetry nowadays - which is a shame since he was getting better and better. He may come back to it one day and then again, perhaps I shouldn't wish that on anyone - it can be a bit of a curse...

I really like this. Interesting mix of sword, demons, and monks...
and then to meet with the missing one.
Sounds more like a mystery than a nightmare...

Isobel, i sincerely hope it isn't your brothers nightmare. How and where has he got to by the way? :-)

Cynthia - actually your comment says a lot in the sense that nightmares don't always allude to or symbolize anything. They're just a means of expression? maybe?

Thanks.x

I'm missing allusions and symbolism big-time. I can 'feel' them, but I can't peg them down.

That would have to be my brother - who owns one of those, along with a set of bagpipes...
