ESSEX YOUNG POET OF THE YEAR COMPETITION

Open to Young Poets in Essex only. 

Has anyone in your school written a good poem since August 1st 2007?
Poetry in Practice organizes an annual event to celebrate the wealth of poetic talent in Essex. The event includes a very popular poetry competition for young people.

The competition is open to anyone under the age of 16 living in, or attending school in. Essex. Prizes will be awarded in four age categories. With the full support of Essex County Council the title  ‘Essex Young Poet of the Year’ will be awarded to the overall winner. Age will be taken into consideration when making this award.

Winners will be notified by post, and the results published in the local press. Prizes (book tokens for first, second and third places in each category, and a perpetual trophy for the  overall .winner).will be presented in October at venue in Chelmsford. Presentation details will be sent to all prizewinners and their schools September.
In addition (subject to funding) approximately 30 of the best entries will be published in a children's poetry anthology copies of which will be on sale at the presentation .Copies
of previous years anthology are available at a cost of £2.50 +  50p post and packing.

Entry to the competition is as simple as we can make it. Just write or word process the poem with its title and attach it securely, with a second copy, to the completed application form.. We recommend that you also keep a copy yourself Post your entry to us before 31st July 2008.   ­
