Coldplay: Viva La Vida

entry picture
I can't understand the unprecedented publicity of Coldplay's new album on the BBC. The Radio One DJs can't seem to go five minutes without mentioning it. I wonder what makes them so brilliant in the eyes of all the bigwigs at the Beeb. In Radio Times they had Simon Pegg from Spaced saying how great they were. Who cares about his opinion? If he was funny I might give him a chance. Needless to say he IS Godfather to one of Chris Martin's children. Also Glastonbury's Michael Eavis gives them a glowing review. I wonder where they all get off. The music is dull, dull, dull like Radiohead, Portishead or Muse. And Chris Martin has no charisma either. What happened to excitement in music? Where's the music for the youth of today? Where's the thrill of rock 'n' roll, garage, glam and punk? Sorry if you like Coldplay but maybe that's why I never get the bourgeoisie poetry gigs.

Was expecting a poem Nick, oh well, agree on the publicity, they hardly need it!!! Although my heart is with the Clash etc, I don't mind Coldplay, I saw them at the Reebok and enjoyed it. I was also glad they played and recorded their video to 'Fix you' there so a bit of pride it wasn't in London!

Not sure they're as dull as Portishead, but what can I say, I go for more depressing stuff like Joy Division and the Cure!!! Cheers Jeffarama!

Coldplay are often referred to as 'fannies on sticks', at least they are in my house. They have an excitability factor up there with Belinda Carlise. Now, don't squirt me with figures of just how many records they've sold. They are the turnip soup of the record industry. This is nothing personal, you understand. That Chris wotsisname is a decent enough chap, he's just not Rock n' Roll. Give me Art Garsausage anytime...

Write more thought provoking ... yawn inducing... stuff and join the gig! I quite like the music but I need to be in that mood already.
