September 5: Be Late for Something Day
September 5: Be Late for Something Day
Cycling to Work on the Lakefront
The dawn arrives in breaths of silv'ry gray
as curls of fog surround me, sheltering
and soothing, wisping from the waterway
beside the soundless shadow ferrying
on wings of Mercury to seek the shore
of climes pedestrian. For now I'll kiss
the chilling mist, divine the night before
in footsteps in the sand, and feel the bliss
of wat'ry spirits pressing on my ears
to wash the city sounds a world away.
The golden flickering of wheels appears
to spin me higher, as a long array
of urban monoliths of steel and beam
are swept away like phantoms in a dream.
