Weary blues

"Rocking back and forth to a mellow croon,/I heard a Negro play./Down on Lenox Avenue the other night/By the pale dull pallor of an old gas light." Langston Hughes

Blues come by night baby, and blues come by day
Have to watch yourself, not get taken away, down
To the 12 bars waitin for you, in the drinkin’ stew.

Washed up on the morning
Drinking again at noon
Blues wait round the corner
Seize your soul real soon.

No matter what you do or think
The blues are all the same
The lonely lies, the cryin’ shame.

Blues hit hard, blues aint never goan away,
Blues slink into you, your soul betrayed,
Left all alone, at the end of the live-long day.

Worse than any sentence, blues is for life,
Go see the doctor, go talk to your psych,
Blues in the soul, and the blues gotta knife.
