2025: Trev does another National Poetry Month in Texas and NaPoWriMo: Part 10 Austin 2
Image: Jojo playing the autoharp a kind of zither fitted with a series of sprung and padded bars to allow playing of chords by damping selected strings, and singing along to it, she's good too.
02.05.25 – 121) Time to be waking Jojo her medication she’s to be taking
It’s done, later breakfast, scrambled eggs, fries, bread, then away we head
Lake Travis seems a good bet, we ain’t been there yet
Nice run in he morning sun. Ain’t gonna rush, ain’t gonna push
Let things flow, just so, as is our will, we chill
Park up, steady pace, talk an’ smile, sit an’ relax a while
Soon no more talk, we have a little walk
Clouds turnin’ grey, could be rain on the way
We ain’t mindin’ we’re enjoyin’ the peace we’re findin’
Despite no sun, with nature we’re at one
Time to go, mornin’ been a delight
So chill for the afternoon before Wheatsville tonight
122) Rested an’ ready, gonna take it steady
Not too far, to Wheatsville on South Lamar
Jojo’s an’ mine, first time to share our verse an’ rhyme
Looks a good place, plenty of parkin’ space. We go in an’ it ain’t long
Before others come in for an evenin’ of spoken word an’ song
We get underway, sing say or play
Listenin’ with the respect you find among people of a loike mind
My poems I did say, were all related to the USA
Jojo’s although short, had been given much thought
We head away it’s rainin’ but we ain’t complainin’
Behind other cars in a line thinkin, “it sho’ went mighty fine”
03.05.25 – 123) Morning routines done, rest a while an’ smile
Then enjoy the sun, a familiar route we take to Ladybird Lake
For part of the day, check a venue on the way
It’s done, it’s alright, open mic on Tuesday night
Park upwalk a while, rest up watch people passing by
Cyclists, walkers, joggers, sharin’ the path, no hoggers
The mornin’ passes nicely soon it’s afternoon
As is our will we go back an’ chill
deciding rest is best an; doin’ it right, an’ go out for a meal tonight
Crab Shack comes to the fore, ain’t been there before
Crab an’ crawfish, potatoes an’ bread, it comes, tuck in go ahead
Jojo thinks “what the hell” it all comes in its shell
They don’t leave you like fools, it comes with al the tools
An’ I’m havin’ a laugh at all the faff
Not feelin’ blue cos we got nothin’ better to do
We start to eat, but soon we’re beat
No need for sorrow, to go box requested, it’ll do for breakfast tomorrow
04.05.25 – 124) Breakfast an, last nights to go box eaten
This time I weren’t beaten, coffee an’ toast, then away to make he most
Of this mornin’s sun away we run
To Lake Travis once more, listenin’ to the waves lap on the shore
Feelin’ the sun on our arms, an’ at one with natures charms
125) Mornin’ over it’s early afternoon, sun to much to bear
We decide we ain’t stoppin’ there. Jojo need pacin’ not racin’
All we’ve done, we don’t want it to be undone
Sure as hell we want her keepin’ well
So head back an’ rest we’ll do, an’ maybe read a poem or two
126) Coffee in the afternoon an’ soon the days flowin’ we gotta be goin’
To Kick Butt for the final time this year to share for me to share my rhyme
An’ it’s gonna be a real great time.
05.05.25 – 127) Kick Butt as usual was a delight, it went alright
But as the evenin’ got old, Jojo started feelin’ cold
So we decided to lead but can’t wait til next year
To hear Hot Tamale say “it must be April, trevor’s here”.
128) Drivin’ back, saw a fairground, went for a look round
Watchin’ kids havin’ fun, screaming with delighted
Before headin’ back for the night
Woke to sun shinnin’ but not for long, rains gonna come along
Can’t be blue, got things to do. Library just up the road, photos to upload
Documents an’ poems lost, reprint not too much cost
Even photos printed I feel I got a good deal
Sky turnin’ grey as so goes the day. Rain comin’ soon by early afternoon
It comes down we watch an’ take our ease
Listen to it fallin’ an’ drippin’ from the trees
Then decide to seek natures beauty at Bull Creek
Steady drive, let the afternoon come alive
Visit not in vain, place looks good even in the rain
Rain abates some, we smile an’ walk a while
Then away once more, somewhere we ain’t seen before
Red Bud Isle, we park up a while
An’ the Colorado River one things plain, it looks good even in the rain
We go back, the rains still fallin’ looks like it’s gonna be
An evenin’ in front of the tv
06.05.25 – 129) Stil rainin’ get some washin’ done
Nurse comin’ to se Jojo between 11 an’ 1
Washin’ done it’s in the dryer, iron it when its done
Still rainin’, thunderin’ really comin’ down
Flood warnin’ sent out for the town
A phone call an’ I hear the nurse is here
130) Nurse an’ Jojo talk, discus the way to go,
Jojo can tell she’s feelin’ well
Vitals an’ other checks, nurse goes on to say they’ve all come out okay
Worries eased we’re all well pleased
In the main to see Jojo getting’ well again
131) Rain finally stops, sun comes out an’ clouds tell
The afternoons gonna be as hot as hell
It is as things come alive we go for a drive
To see more of what we ain’t seen before
Ladybird Lake to the East of I35
Rest enjoy nature before the evenin’ comes alive
At Austin Gardens and Studio where me an’ Jojo’s performin’ live
07.05.25 – 132) Last night another first time
For Jojo an’ mine’s verse an’ rhyme
Both had a great time now the final full day’s begun, blue sky an’ hot sun
Enjoy the day without sorrow, try not to think about tomorrow
133) Morning spent at Mayfield Park Nature Preserve
Been here before in 2012 an’ once more in 2023,
A bunch of us includin’ Thom an’ me Now in 2025 it feels good to be alive
A get away on my last full day
Now me an’ Jojo’s here enjoyin’ the stillness, the silence.
Sat watchin’ people come an’ go, lettin’ the time slowly flow
Once more relaxin’ doin’ nothin’ overtaxin’
Was nice but eventually we had to go
Back to Jojo’s for lunch for midday, grandson Josh is orderin’ a takeaway
Asked if I wanted Jalapenos I said “No way”
Whatever it was a winner, an Austin Pizza Dinner
134) My poems and documents I thought were lost had been found
An email from Thom, an’ to his house I was bound
Down Mopac, traffic heavy for this time of day
I see blue lights flashin’ away
I think “oh brother” as I see one car has run in to another
Road clears, good progress an’ on to Thoms
Poems collected, we goi in, sit an’ smile chat a while
Thom wishes me a safe journey home,
At the end of another great poetry roam
An’ goes on to tell Jojo she’s done really well
Wendy takes a photo we say goodbye an’ away we run
On Mopac again an accident, another one
I lean over to Jojo an’ say
Not often you see two accidents on the same road on the same day
135) Rested now ready, for OPA drive steady
Last open mic of my tour an’ we’re on Mopac once more
Sirens sound fire trucks pass, I can’t believe what I see
Another crash on Mopac makin’ it three
Soon we’re past not drivin’ fast
Arrive safely at OPA an’ one thing’s plain,
It’s great to get a parkin’ space again
136) OPA an' Zack says “welcome back” we take a seat
He says “you’re on the sign up sheet
He gets the show on the road, stand by for music, song an’ ode
My turn no ruction, humorous introduction
Let it flow see people grinning, seems like I’m winning
Guy on his cellphone talking, out of the door walkin
Raised a laught when I asked “am I that bad”
But the applause said different for the Yorkshire Lad
I’m done then Jojo lets it flow
Reading from the page she seems really at home on the stage
Puttin’ on the style, an impromptu curtsy mad the audience smile
Other acts come an’ go each puttin’ on a great show
An a shame its my last night, but one things clear
They want me back again next year
