Does It Have To Be Today?

Oh, how I despise this yellowed majesty,

This new dawn, this new day, this travesty.

Why must nighttime take its leave?

Why should our one night of passion grieve?

Oh, how I despise the unbrightened moon,

This new dawn, this new day, had arrived too soon.

Why couldn’t the now vanished face above?

Continually shine down upon us and love?

Oh, how I despise those glittering stars,

This new dawn, this new day, they’re no longer ours.

Why must the sun eclipse their shimmering light?

Why must today eclipse last night?

Oh, how I despise this morning's madness

This new dawn, this new day, an emotional sadness

Why can’t we be forever entwined?

I begged the night, but the night declined.

Oh, how I despise this young day dawning,

This new dawn, this new day, this frosted morning.

Why can’t we lie close, as lovers do,

You, holding me, while I’m holding you.

Oh, how I despise this fresh morning breeze,

This new dawn, this new day, this warming ease.

Why can’t the winds blow in other directions?

Not, blow away this shared love and affection.

Oh, how I despise the flowering Jasmine,

This new dawn, this new day, its fragrance casting

Awkwardly, without a word, she rose and dressed.

Then, without even a backward glance, she left.
