And If I Never Met You.

And if I never met you.

And if I never met you

I wonder, would this day still wrap around me

In a thousand shades of grey?

Perhaps the tender raindrops

Would never have had a reason to settle in this place.

And if I never met you

I guess I’d still believe the world was cruel

I’d see shadows instead of rainbows

Or suffocate in clouds

As they smothered skies of blue.

And if I’d never met you

I wouldn’t know my heart

I wouldn’t know that friendship

Survives even when we part.

And if I’d never met you

If I had never known your name

If I’d never felt a stranger's love

I don’t think I’d ever be the same.

If the price of you is pain

If the gift of you must cost

I’d pay to feel my heart break—

Time and time again.

Hello Clare,

I am conscious that I seem to follow or precede many of Graham Sherwoods comments. I think we maybe are drawn to similar subjects and styles of writing.

I'm sure that Graham won't mind me saying that considering some of our previous differences it's refreshing to know that often we are on similar trajectories in respect of what we like.

Forgive me, it's merely an observation.

Regarding your poem to my mind it sums up the notion that every beautiful thing comes with some kind of pain, either sooner or later.

But then again life is beautiful.

“Let everything happen to you
Beauty and terror
Just keep going
No feeling is final”
― Rainer Maria Rilke
