THE ALCHEMY
An intimidated heart recoils from his touch,
While a ravenous heart surrenders to hunger-
An experiment beyond the weak
A lesson to the fools
To those of love and hate.
Trembling like a loose leaf
Later trampled, buried in the soil
Lost among moss and dead trees.
A forgotten prayer whispered to the wind
A wish lost to the endless night.
Father, Father
Grant me a heart stronger than soft grass
Tender like stone rivers
Shaped and purified by holy waters.
Give me a kinder heart
Lest I fall to greed
And lose myself in a name not my own.
Let my heart be a fortress
Yet gentle enough to cradle the world
Untouched by the thorns of vanity or pride.
Let it beat with the rhythm of the stars
Unyielding in its compassion
Clear as the morning light.

Hélène,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful words! I’m glad the poem resonated with you. The balance between guarding one's heart while staying open to love is a delicate one, and I agree. It often comes after deep healing. I’m so happy you connected with the title too.
