FAREWELL LADY ENGLAND

Noble Lady England now wears a rancid gown

From the feckless, foolish and faithless busy doing her down

She sinks in a crime and grime-filled gutter

Her once regal voice a feeble mutter:

"Please forgive my condition...my pitiful state...

You who recall I was once something "Great"..

I'm no longer the name I used to be,

Gratitude has gone and what you now see

Is the result of betrayal from within....

The future wears a rictus grin

From those who despise my famous life

But shamelessly profit from the strife

Met in martial times when taking a stand

Against  tyranny's over-eager hand....

I'm not what I was but I can proudly recall

Leading the charge to stop Freedom's fall.

UOC - I guess that time will be the ultimate arbiter about that.
Faint heart never won fair future! As for the parlous state of
Parliament these days, there can be no better (worse?) example
than the farce seen there yesterday as a result of the Speaker's
decision to override accepted convention and fiddle with the
voting process - essentially letting the Opposition leader escape an embarrassing revolt in his own party ranks. Impartiality
took a dive that day!

Relevance MC?
The “crime” of Brexit: the worst act of economic and social self-harm ever perpetrated on the UK.

I'm not so sure about the "Brexit" relevance when it comes to
national allegiance and belief. We seem to have forgotten the
parable about getting rid of the mote in our own eye before
trying to remove it from others. Cheers.

Nail-on-Head there, MC.
“…a crime and grime-filled gutter” and that’s just the government!
A self-inflicted tradegy of epic proportions, for which no-one appears willing to shoulder the blame.
“Sic Transit Gloria Brexit”.
