The Blue World Below

As I eagerly watch my TV set, the

commentator describes for us another world;

‘Forests of kelp flourish in shallow waters

in warm turquoise sea bed villages

Giant fronds rising up to heady heights

creating crowded thickets of life that

fight for food and space to survive

However the enemy in the shape

of sharp spiky sea urchins, descend quickly,

feeding endlessly off this

life sustaining plant in seemingly endless

bristly armies in full flow

  Golden coloured garibaldi fish, trawl

the algae for daytime sustenance too

Having to take refuge in the dark night

waters from evil deep sea predators

Fish eat fish, not dog eat dog

in this underwater world

of kaleidoscope colours

With octopi, giant crabs and stingrays

All waiting patiently... for their prey

Blue world below

      Blue turns to gold

            Gold turns to silver

                   As the sea creatures glow’

and Reasons’ by ‘Rick’ Varden
