Don't Mess With The Post

The bare facts: they killed six and wounded seventeen

When a coward's rockets destroyed the Kharkiv Post.

Another crime to add to the burgeoning list.

I got used to loss at the Post when very young;

Christmas 70: my first job when still at school.

We started together, a young student and I.

Later that day, her bike was crushed by a lorry.

I was working the vans; everyone rushed to help.

I recall her screams as they tried to pull her free.

She died. My memory is of community;

A silent workplace mourning one they barely knew.

In Kharkiv, I’m sure they’re made of similar stuff.

Accidents will happen; murder doesn’t have to.

A reckoning will come. You don’t mess with the Post.

Thank you, John and Uilleam. Yes, it was quite a tough first day at work, but the solidarity of the postal workers was humbling.

And thanks to Nigel, Graham, Greg, Frederick, Hélène, Holden, John and Manish for liking.

Thanks Stephen.
I too once worked at the post-when the words "public" "service" and "community" embodied what's now a proscribed concept.
Yes, murder is murder no matter who commits it.
