Whining poetry

entry picture

Complain with the full force of a Jesuit priest
Whine like a man who knows he's out of time
Casuistry and sophistry
Work together
In perfect harmony.

Poetry's more about wine than whine
More about seeking to express the inexpressible
Than complaining about how difficult it is.
A true poet makes the difficult easy
Can turn water into wine in a half-truncated line

Caesuras can soar in words and never return
Or bore.
I must learn how not to compromise.
Pull out his eyes! Pull out his eyes!
Apologise! Apologise!

I will not apologise if it cost me my life.
I will never apologise. I'd rather laugh
And spit in the face
Of all the stupidities of the human race.

Sniff out intelligence
It causes nothing but glee
All the premature gravediggers,
All those who condemn those who try
To shift the shade
To seek the good in the heart of darkness
To break free from this all-abiding stupidity.

Thank you Stephen, Tom & Mark.

"Poetry is the journal of the sea animal living on land, wanting to fly in the air. Poetry is a search for syllables to shoot at the barriers of the unknown and the unknowable. Poetry is a phantom script telling how rainbows are made and why they go away." Carl Sandburg, 'The Atlantic', 1927

The art of poetry is manifold, dependng on its purpose. Long may it be so. But it's agreed that you can have too much of a
bad thing! To be boring is unforgiveable.
