The Escape Committee

At the inaugural meeting

Of my mother’s Care Home

One-Day Escape Committee,

Just two stragglers gathered,

At a sun-drenched table

Outside the Old Lodge,

With a coffee and a chocolate cake,

Pure brown nectar and some sugary stodge!

We’d escaped the Community Lounge malaise!

Item One:  Inordinate praise.

“Mum, you’re amazing!  I’m so proud of you!”

This wasn’t even tongue-in-cheek.

“You’re in high spirits every week!”

“Thank you,” said Google from my phone.

My mum and I were not alone!

“These computers are taking over!” mum laughed.

So, we reconvened, to a table inside,

Further away from the draught…

Evertthing in the poem really happened 😁

I loved the quirkiness of this, John. I remember escaping from the lounge with my mum at the care home, to get away from Jeremy Kyle and other daytime TV at 200 decibels!
