A Piece of Cloth

entry picture

A creature is created,

a joy and a blessing to all;

God called her Woman,

Adam named her Eve,

which means she who gives life

Eve was guilty of taking a bite

of the forbidden fruit of the tree of good and evil;

Adam was tempted by her and that was the end of it all,

that was how Original Sin was born

That was the beginning and then came the rest,

a stigma that continues to this day;

conveniently, throughout history,

it has been claimed that all Eves were to blame

Men, on the other hand, kill and slaughter,

their sin is quickly washed away and even hailed as warriors;

so let us ask ourselves:

If placed on a balance which sin weighs more,

biting an apple or killing a man?

Women work wonders

holding us tight,

calming our fears

and warm up our nights

They cuddle our children

and light up our lives,

care for the elderly

and gladden our hearts

Women can sing better,

dance like birds in the sky,

and when they want to study

they certainly excel

Able to do several things at once,

almost unstoppable, are only held back

by insecure and narrow-minded men

When men get into a quarrel

a woman settles it with a smile and a word,

she always chooses peace over bloodshed;

her maternal instinct is surely at work

What kind of religion can justify

that a woman's life is worth less than a cloth,

and by not dressing like a curtain deserves death,

or at the least be humiliated?

God has never commanded this,

and not even the Koran says

that a women should cover her face!

Both the Koran and the Hadith leave no doubt that women, like men,

are called to increase and pursue their knowledge;

So why should there be so many restrictions, on education, and not let women study?

Is it to keep them blind and at a disadvantage?

Cruelty and stupidity go hand in hand

in both Iran and Afghanistan,

where women for not covering themselves

are mistreated, beaten and thrown into prison

For some, women are considered second class beings,

some African countries demonstrate this

by horribly mutilating young girls' clitorises;

a horrendous practice that should be forbidden

If the opposite were done

and boys had their scrotums cut off,

there would be a terrible uproar;

that, as you can see, would cause a tremendous stir

It is said that women should not openly display

their beauty in the streets, for this is considered

a serious offense to provoke men

who are unable to control themselves;

which is the same as admitting that men are wimps

But it turns out that this is not how it is seen,

the blame falls always on Eve;

she is the one who has to be controlled and subjugated,

and ends up paying for the weakness of men

Hiding a woman behind a burqa

may seem like a game,

but when blood starts to flow,

because a piece of cloth is out of place,

then call it for what it is; just call it a crime

Everyone knows where the difference is,

men are bigger and stronger

and want to control,

so they impose on women

unfair rules and laws

It is only a matter of time before

this degrading injustice is stopped;

women are reacting and claiming their rights;

they now acknowledge what liberty means

and no longer are afraid to take a stand

Is it so important to use a cloth

to cover a woman or limit her knowledge?

Where, when and who said so?

Does it have to be this way?

I emphatically say no, no and no!
