Covet

It seems as though

We will always desire

Things we aren’t meant to touch

Because they’re so damn hot

That they burn like fire

Would we still want to go there?

If it was not dangerous or forbidden?

These feelings are often so intense

Because they have to be locked away or hidden

If we decide to cross the line

Like the moth to a flame

Relief then destruction

Satisfaction and shame

Maybe it’s mean to be kept secret

Or it’s obviously shown— but never spoken about

Chained down with a lock for safety

While it’s bursting to get out

Thank you, Rasa. I like the way that the physicality of this piece is ramped up, culminating in the last verse.

Thank you Graham for that very reflective comment. It's a complex area isn't it! Humans are complicated! 😇

The human dilemma Rasa that you illustrate perfectly here in your piece.

Wanting what we know we cannot have is bad enough.

Wanting what we know we shouldn't have but have a chance of having albeit with tragic consequences is worse!

Good to read this thought provoking work! I wonder how many of us have fallen foul of its sentiments.
