Nimue

Nimue,

Are you there?

Are you keeping your secrets

Guardian of pool

Conductor of fools,

Protector of the waters,

Let me throw you my sword

Along with my memories

Gathered with cobwebs

On my life’s journey

Deja vu visits me

As I wander through verdant fields

Feet in a babbling brook,

Castle walls calm and gnarled from the fight.

Fade with grandeur into the night.

Nimue are you there?

Can you hear me

Reveal to me your beauty,

Reveal to me your wisdom

A thousand years you’ve slept

Watching over the dawns

Conjuring the mist from the mirror

Illusory form of the deep.

Excalibur I return to you

I have no use for it now,

Take it before I plunge it to my heart

I have held it high

Dulled the blade in many fight

Nimue, please wake,

My tears mix with the waters

Raise your hand like you have before

Catch what I throw

Keep it safe for others

For I must go.

A beautiful, evocative poem, Pete! I loved the line "Castle walls calm and gnarled from the fight." 🌷
