Gig Economy

entry picture

She loved the pizza delivery boy;

She loved his cheery, optimistic ways.

She loved the feel of his muscular arms,

But not his endless sixteen-hour days.

That evening, he went out on the night shift;

He was so short of savings for his age.

But she was restless and her eyes would drift

Towards announcements on the singles page.

Soon after, he finished work exhausted,

And found a scribbled message on the floor.

‘I’ve moved in with a boring nine-to-five;

You’ll find the spare key just behind the door.’

Thank you, Ray. Yes, it's true there is a chillier side to this. So many are in 'precarious' jobs which offer low wages and few prospects.

Although this is a lightweight piece, it has to me a darker background of insecurity and hopes dashed, and of course the straying of human nature. Good one Stephen.
