Come Sit with Me

Come sit with me, sailor

Tell me your tales

You’ve travelled the oceans

You’ve danced with dolphins

And sung with whales

Your weathered voice

So husky and wizened

It give me the chills

I’m eager to hear

All that you hold dear

We have time to kill

I’ve nowhere to be

We’ll drink whiskey

And wine

Til we’ve had our fill

Tell me your stories

And I’ll tell you mine

Let’s ride waves together

Under the sailor’s delight

I love how your eyes

Outshine the moonlight

Let’s out laugh the raindrops

Our giggles, I promise

Will embarrass the starlight

You play the banjo

I’ll sing you a song

Our melody will banish

This stormy night

And will keep us both

Strong

We can welcome the sunrise

Buoyant and free

As we sail this ocean

In harmony

Sit with me, sailor

Spare a moment for me

Tell me your stories

I want to share with you

Your joy of the sea

I’m in need of a muse

I’ve nowhere to be

It’s just you and me

And this magnificent sea

I couldn’t bare it

If me

You were to refuse

So, sit with me, sailor

Let your words blow

In the breeze

I promise by morning

I will know you

And, you will know me.

Loved this.
Any chance of a sequel... Perhaps the sailors response?

Beautiful and flowing. A top notch poem, Clare, and strangely romantic.
