HEPPY’S FISH AND STRIP

In less politically correct times it was an icon of Wakey, to be mentioned in the same sentence as often as not as Batley Variety Club. You got exactly what it said on the tin - fish, chips and accompanying strippers. Not a classic combination I grant you, but it made Heppy a rich man.

It's not uncommon these days to find bouncers on the doors

Of Wakey pubs where bovver might erupt

Who chuck out Likely Lads in gutters wretching on all fours

Who were not strong enough for what they'd supped.

It might surprise you though to find those bouncers stood outside

A restaurant which serves up fish and chips

A bistro needing doormen seems to go against the tide

But this was Wakefield's Heppy's Fish 'n' Strip.

Just seen your comment, Stephen. Thankyou. They probably did; it could be a rowdy plaice. I’m labouring on my phone trying to post this and only just got the poem added.
And thanks for the Like, Holden and Frederick.

Interesting, John. Did they throw the chips if the show wasn't up to much? It takes all sorts (or vinegar).
