For the Azov Brigade in Mariupol

With a per capita GNI of $3,540, Ukraine is the poorest country in Europe as of 2020.

Ruins of Mariupol could become Russia's first big prize in Ukraine. Here's what's happened there so far - ABC News

Before, I loved the rainy mornings of my life
And I never thought that friendly mountain passes
Would ferry me away
But  now happy times are seldom
And the rain runs away with me.

From holiday beach to temptestous sea
Thunder clouds gather like swarms of angry bees
I have lost my faith in the indomitable sea.
And I have lost my faith in humanity
I sing only one song now
'Protect the young and defend the free.'

O! the mechanical movement of the sun
Sunshine blooms and nectar spreads
Like a tender tree's dappled sunlight
Covering  all that's dappled, fair
A magical chiaroscuro of delight
Like a changeling in the ocean,
Lke the yearning to be free
Like the Azov Brigade
And unlike me.

Both beautiful & sorrowful. A great, thoughtful, piece John.

Thank you Stephen. So many brave Ukrainians losing their lives resisting the invaders and the west refuses to send troops to help them. Such shameful appeasement.

A fine, timely poem, John.
