THE PROMISE

entry picture

Looking in the mirror,

I am starting to love you like never before, although the first wrinkles appear around your eyes.

I promise that your chatting eyes are going to bright more often

If they don’t have a reason to bright, I will find one for them.

I am going to treat your skin like the most expensive dress,

The kind of dress that only you could watch it, through the glass window

Just clean and loving hands will dare to touch you,

Hands willing to pay the price,

price measure by what you are going to get, not what they will pay.

I am going to feed you as my mom did it with me,

I will check out the temperature of your food in my skin,

not too hot that could burn your heart, not too cold that could freeze your brain

I will pay special attention to your gestures, learning your favorite flavors in each mouthful,

Not too sweet, not too salted,

and definitely not too bitter; of bitterness, you have got enough.

I will give you an invaluable gift. I will give you time

You may ask yourself, time for what?

Time to read that book that you have always wanted to read,

Time to do your nails, instead of preparing the breakfast for him, before he wakes up hungry

Time to go for a coffee, without thinking about the report that your boss is waiting for,

Time to write the poem that will keep you in this place when you have been gone.

Great stuff, Erika.. One or two of the line lengths went on a bit for my personal taste but it didn't ruin the poem for me.

I was cheered up by this poem, Erica. It has a warmth, a joy.
Excellent, really.
