Scone Or Scone?

They are baked with affection
served up as a special treat
An afternoon delight
which can be savoury or sweet

A variety of flavours
fruity, plain or cheesy
Each one is delicious
to make a choice isn’t easy

For something so innocent
there is much controversy
Caused by this unassuming
national delicacy

Folk question the pronunciation
does scone rhyme with stone
Or does scone rhyme with none
long arguments have been known

People have strong feelings
when it comes to serving cream tea
The Devon or Cornish way
makes a difference you see

Is it cream before jam
or should it be jam before cream
Those little scones baked with love
cause such trouble it would seem

Not so hasty, Greg. Yorkshire and Lancashire went to war over a bunch of Asda floribunda roses.

Nice work, Julie. If only the matters that divide us could be restricted to such things!
