Home of the Brave

A Navajo boy, 15 years old.

Initiation into manhood. His father blindfolded him

and brought him to the density of the wild forest

to be left alone. The youth in the night,

blackness, as leaves would rustle

of wind, animals trampling

over the expanse of endless earth,

the youth trembled! It seemed this ordeal

as it slowly unfolded had no end. His bleak experience darkened.

When suddenly as morning broke, he saw a host

of golden flowers. To his unconscious mind,

he saw a man directly behind him—his beloved Father!

Who remained silently behind his son

as the Night Watchmen were there with their weapons,

stood watch behind him. A drawn bow.

Washington politicians all night righteously

sipping and declaring,

Take the arable land from these savages.

We must purchase imported
