The days in between Christmas 
and the start of the New Year
Eating all the leftovers 
drinking up the wine and beer

Time spent just hanging around 
seeing family and friends 
Exchanging unwanted gifts
sale shopping with Christmas spends 

Lazy days away from work 
watching old films on TV
Nothing important to do
nowhere essential to be

Relaxing with a good book
or jigsaw to tax the brain
Take a walk in the outdoors
never mind the wind and rain

Looking towards the future 
and dreaming of brighter days
Making new resolutions
and promising better ways 

Those days just after Christmas 
and just before the New Year 
A time for us to cherish 
and enjoy some twixmas cheer

a bit different this year
Can’t be doing with the fuss
and the polite festive cheer

Maybe I'll scrap the above
and just stay in bed instead 
Tucked up warm and cosy 
with the duvet over my head
