Christmas Past, Present and Future

It is the week before Christmas
and I’m feeling a little down
Covid is still making the news
there’s a new variant in town

They have named it Omicron
pronounced in many different ways
We should know how to say it now
it’s all we’ve heard about for days

It’s spreading across the nation
cases doubling over night
Everyone needs to get boosted
to stand a chance to win this fight

Christmas plans are affected
no one knows what to do for the best
Should we carry on regardless
just keep doing the daily test

or

Should we cancel all our plans
and self isolate home alone
We are all in a quandary
in limbo, facing the unknown

We hoped this pandemic would be
something left in the Christmas past
But it is here for the present
and going nowhere very fast

The future is so uncertain
Covid seems to be here to stay
As our dreams for this Christmas
are slowly fading day by day

Thanks for the messages Keith snd a Stephen G. Difficult decisions to be made on the run up to Xmas. Let’s hope the figures show it’s a much milder variant very soon. Thanks also for the likes. A more cheery, just for fun poem posted.

Very fine response to a sad situation, Julie. Although case numbers are currently dropping in Belgium, Omicron is around and it seems only a matter of time before they start going up again.

Julie,
Your poem, very well put together, captures what many people feel about the present situation. We must not allow ourselves to become depressed or anxious about this pandemic. Enjoy each day as it comes. Follow the guidelines as best as one can and keep going with a smile on your face as that will be a source of joy to others. Thank you for this
Keith
