For Want Of Immortality

To bear in mind the common wrongs,
carry the burden as a test
of the meaning of 'eternal',
the prospects of the great projects
and purpose of the mannered life.

It was to bear in mind the common wrongs
Jesus Christ spoke of the poor always
being with us, full knowing the poor
are all of us and all we are.

When the poor see the shining van spill out
busy men, drilling and testing our earth
and then as quickly disappear, so sad
they feel they have seen ghosts, or aliens.

Pray a line of W.B. Yeats hits you, then
poet, drop your pen and pick up the burden,
bearing in mind the common wrongs,
make your plans for the smallest
anonymous success.
