AUGUST
August takes over
and holds us down
like a bully on the playground
while all the other months
are yelling and screaming
bully August
just bears down harder
laughs in their faces
it knows it is the stronger
meaner month
and can get away with its oppression
it lords over the others
no one will come to help
August has learned it can get away with it
it has knocked the wind out of us
so it keeps it up
bearing down harder and harder
until the bell finally rings
and it gradually releases its grip
then slowly saunters off
with a lingering sneer
it got away with it this time
the bad news is
the brute will be back around.
