Homesick

Homesick

My heart,

It, yearns— it aches,

Longing— almost begging,

For my other life— far away

My loved ones, the mountain, my familiar surroundings

I want to be able to embrace them,

Take them with me— and never let them go,

But it cannot be so

The cold winters— back in my town,

That I used to find so hard,

Now just remind me

Of the old sun filled frosty mornings— drinking tea in my yard

When a cool wind here occasionally blows,

Locals complain of the chill—as though it’s toxic and seeps in to their bones

But I take it in,

As it reminds me of home

They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder,

And it certainly does

Because everything in my other life

Now seems lovelier— than it ever was

Very interesting poem, Rasa. The pull of home is always there, even if one's 'other life' is a happy one. Thanks.
