Sometimes our misfortunes dwell on us and we have no power over them, we can fight the good fight but as is manifest we do not always win.
We should not surrender whatever the cost. We should at our very least attempt to understand those who cannot escape their past, if we cannot do that what hope do they have?
Quoting the genius of Voltaire is a get out of jail free card, fair enough I guess.
