BELIEVING THAT I LIED - a repost from a decade ago

I know that it always hurts

When I think of you;

And I know for sure it always will

Every time I do.

The memory of what we had

Just won't go away,

And knowing that it turned out bad

Darkens each new day.

I see that when we said goodbye

Something in me died.

You seemed to be so very sure

When you said I lied.

It wasn't just the words you used

To say that we were through;

It hurt much worse that you believed

That I could cheat on you.

And when I said I didn't care

It tore me up inside.

It's funny in the saddest way....

But THAT was when I lied!

Nice twist at the end, and conveys a strong sense of loss and longing.
