Sunday Afternoon

entry picture

A cup of tea in the garden
the sky a mix of blue and grey
The warm summer sun comes and goes
just an ordinary Sunday

Yet my surroundings delight me
potted flowers colourful and bright
The constant flurry of wild birds
come to feed from morning to night

There’s fresh water in the birdbath
and enough food to go around
I feed the blackbird and her chicks
the mouse takes what falls to the ground

The distant sound of a tractor
carries along on the light breeze
My view is fifty shades of green
displayed by the fields, plants and trees

Water sprays up from the fountain
sparkles when it catches sunlight
Busy bees collect their nectar
butterflies flutter by in flight

I take my last sips of tea
in these surroundings that delight
As the afternoon becomes evening
and the day turns into night

Thank you, Julie. I almost missed it today but am so glad I didn't!
Your poems always leave a good feeling.
