Our Garden Tonight

entry picture

A midsummer evening
the setting sun sits low
catching the garden plants
vibrant colours aglow

Hot pink, scarlet, purple
yellow, orange and white
petunia and pansies
radiant and bright

Copper coloured acer
tall, majestic and bold
the distant house windows
reflect shimmering gold

Long shadows on the lawn
cast by low grey stone walls
a slight chill in the air
as the temperature falls

Cloudless hazy blue sky
there’s a cool gentle breeze
sparrows, finch and blue tits
chat and sing in the trees

The sparrows chatter like mad in our bamboo at dusk. And I love acers! Thanks for this, Julie.

Colours are seen
when looking at
words of poetry.
