Hedgerow

entry picture

A month of persistent rainfall
gave us plenty to moan about
A change in the weather today
we rejoiced as the sun came out

We walked along the country lanes
dense hedgerow lined our way
All the hues of a spring rainbow
made for a delicate display

Glossy buttercups tall and bright
sturdy dandelion below
Frail with age they become a clock
disappear with a puff and blow

Red campion fades to deep pink
bluebells every shade and hue
Delicate bells that do not ring
indigo, violet and blue

Home to insects, birds and wildlife
walls built in fifty shades of green
Tree branches, leaves, nettles and grass
wild flowers scattered in between

We walked along the country lanes
lined by hedgerow dense and tall
house and home to all wildlife
with the prettiest garden of them all
