we drink our coffee

we exchange comments

questions

and pleasantries

a pun

a joke or two

this is our starting point for the day

our conversations meet in the middle

of the table

all centered around

our family and our familiarity

drawing on our years together

drawing us closer still

we offer opinions

we exchange ideas

we come to know each other better

the kitchen table serves us well

it serves up conversation and

better understanding

along with a warm cup

of love.
